1) They created one of the most progressive queer spaces on television

The Netflix series Sense8 features two lead LGBTQ+ characters and two supporting LGBTQ+ characters, which is way more LGBTQ+ characters than a typical show features. The characters include two gay hispanic men, a trans lesbian, and a bisexual black woman. Hooray for inclusiveness!

2) When Sense8 was cancelled, they fought to produce one more episode to complete the story Lana and Lilly knew how important their show had become to their fans. A month after it was cancelled by Netflix in June 2017, Lana announced that the fans' passion had inspired Netflix to work with her and Lilly to produce one more episode, which they were more than happy to do for the fans.

3) They're not just partners in Hollywood, but also sisters

Going through life together as sisters wasn't enough for Lana and Lilly - they decided to partner up to become a Hollywood dream team as well. There's something super cool about two sisters working together to produce awesome art.

4) They're both supportive of each other's experience as trans women

Lilly first spoke publicly about her transition in 2012, with her sister Lana publicly speaking about her identity for the first time in 2016. Both sisters have spoken about the importance of the support of their family and how much it meant to them to have that support during difficult times.

5. Despite being extremely private, they have both opened up about their experiences to try and help others The Wachowskis are notoriously private, with very few public photos of them in existence. Despite how deeply they value their privacy, they have both made a point of sharing words about their experiences to inspire others. “My reality is that I’ve been transitioning and will continue to transition all of my life, through the infinite that exists between male and female as it does in the infinite between the binary of zero and one. We need to elevate the dialogue beyond the simplicity of binary. Binary is a false idol.” -Lilly Wachowski

"I am here because when I was young, I wanted very badly to be a writer, I wanted to be a filmmaker, but I couldn’t find anyone like me in the world and it felt like my dreams were foreclosed simply because my gender was less typical than others. If I can be that person for someone else, then the sacrifice of my private civic life may have value." -Lana Wachowski
